PROFESSOR JONATHAN O. FABUNMI
Jonathan Fabunmi is the Firm’s Principal Partner. He obtained his Ph.D. from University of Birmingham U.K. in December 1971 and was appointed a Professor of Law in October 1981 by the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He has litigated matters involving securities and corporate law. He has also handled legal issues arising out of Oil and Gas, Patent Licensing Agreements, Unfair Competition and Trade secret claims, Government Contract claims, Concession agreements, Commercial contracts, Personal injury and Products Liability cases, and a variety of breach of contract claims involving complex technical and accounting issues.
He has handled arbitration matters here in Nigeria and overseas either as arbitrator or as counsel.
He is a prolific author; his publications include Equity and Trust in Nigeria; Indigenisation Law as a means of Economic Control: the Nigerian experience; The Legal Framework of National Control of Mineral Oil Resources in Nigeria; Government Regulation and Control of Banks Legal Perspective; Trade and Investment Legislation in Nigeria.
Over the last five decades, Prof. Fabunmi has contributed immensely to the advancement of legal education both in Nigeria and abroad. He was a visiting scholar to Harvard Law School U.S.A.; Marx Planck Institute, Hamburg in Germany and the Institute of Advanced Legal studies London. He taught International Commercial Arbitration, Commercial and Consumer Protection Law amongst others at postgraduate level for more than two decades and was a panelist at the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes, Washington, U.S.A representing Nigeria.
He was a two-time dean of the Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University. Prof. Fabunmi also oversaw the setting up of the Law Faculties of Olabisi Onabanjo University and Bowen University, where he served as Pioneer Dean. He was also a Council Member of Bowen University. He is currently the Chairman of the Legal Committee of Ogun State Elders Forum and the Chairman of Business Law Academy.
